An approximation to the errors in the planetary ephemerides of the Astronomical Almanac
نویسنده
چکیده
Errors in the planetary coordinates of the Astronomical Almanac are approximated by comparing their fundamental ephemerides, upon which they are based, with a more recent ephemeris. JPL’s DE200 provided the fundamental planetary and lunar ephemerides of the Astronomical Almanac for the years, 1984–2002, and DE405 has replaced DE200 in that role, starting in 2003. Recently, new observational measurements have become available, thereby enabling further improvements in the ephemerides, and thus, a measure of the previous errors.

A new set of ephemerides for 15 of the largest asteroids has been produced for use in the Astronomical Almanac. The ephemerides cover the period from 1800 through 2100. The internal uncertainty in the mean longitude at epoch, 1997 December 18, ranges from for 7 Iris through for 65 Cybele, and 0A.05 0A.22 the uncertainty in the mean motion varies from per century for 4 Vesta to per century for 5...

E.V. Pitjeva, by processing more than 400,000 planetary observations of various types with the dynamical models of the EPM2006 ephemerides, recently estimated a correction to the canonical Newtonian-Einsteinian Venus’ perihelion precession of −0.0004±0.0001 arcseconds per century. The prediction of general relativity for the Lense-Thirring precession of the perihelion of Venus is −0.0003 arcsec...

The general relativistic Lense-Thirring precessions of the perihelia of the inner planets of the Solar System amount to ≤ 10 arcseconds per century. Up to now they were always retained too small to be detected. Recent improvements in the planetary ephemerides determination yield the first observational evidence of such a tiny effect. Indeed, extra-corrections to the known perihelion advances of...

Maraghe observatory was built by such engineers as Moayiededdin Orozi etc. under supervision of Khaje Nasireddin Tousi in 7th century AH. The most significant feature associated with Maraghe observatory is the fact that architecture is employed to achieve astronomical purposes in this site. The reason for preferring observatory by astronomers was the fact that these units are superior to wooden...
متن کاملTime references in US and UK astronomical and navigational almanacs
An astronomical or navigational almanac can best be thought of as a device for connecting an observer with celestial objects. For an observer with a known position and time the almanac allows the observer to identify the celestial objects. Conversely, if the observer knows what objects he is observing and when, the almanac allows him to determine his position. In either case, knowledge of the t...
